// Lefto //
As one the most important tastemakers Europe has to offer, and affiliated with labels such as Brownswood, Blue Note, !K7 Records, Stones Throw and Jazzy Sport, this bearded early riser is consistently a couple steps ahead of your average early adopter. Lefto has been described by Fact! Magazine as “your favourite DJ’s favourite DJ” and was voted best Belgian DJ in the “Red Bull Belgium DJ Top 100” in 2014.
He doesn’t wait for the next thing to land on his lap, actively seeking it out — just take a peek at his playlists on Belgium’s foremost national radio station Studio Brussel which received compliments from Rough Trade Shops, Gilles Peterson, and featured on MTV Hive. However, don’t assume that he’s only working futuristic angles – no sir. Firmly rooted in jazz and hip hop, he sharpened his digging sensibility working at the now legendary Music Mania record store in his hometown of Brussels.
Famed for his gloriously eclectic DJ sets, he switches effortlessly between genres. He’s not only a DJ and producer but also curates his own stage at the Dour Festival and his own Lefto Presents nights in the Belgian city of Gent. His passion for jazz resulted in a remix album for Blue Note which was well received by the community and a mix for the famous Ninja Tune Solid Steel series.
World renowned, LeFtO regularly blesses sound systems around the globe. His travels have resulted in several compilations on notable labels – a collaboration with DJ Simbad on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings, Universal Music, two releases with Los Angeles based label 101 Apparel, and his most recent compilation for BBE/Southport Weekender. This year marks his first beat LP release due on Record Store Day and more compilations for majors are in the pipeline. You can’t sleep on Lefto!
