******** BATTLE FORMAT INFO ********

1v1 Locking (GMx16 Style!!)

As GroovMekanex, you know we all don’t lock to ONLY what people think is “Locking music”, but we go with the times, and find the funk in anything we listen to and are feeling at the moment. To kick off our 16th Year Anniversary, we are proud to host our very first 1v1 Locking Comp! Check out the format for this one!

Prelims: The usual 45 sec max solo showcase (Judges choose top 17)

*The 17th ranked dancer will be able to call out anyone from the Top 16 for their slot. (This will be the 1st head to head battle of the night. 1 round each).

Top 16: Two round each (1st round Soul music, 2nd round Disco)

Top 8: Two rounds each (1st round 80s Funk, 2nd round 90’s Hip-Hop)

Lastly, the Top 4 goes into a King of the Hill Format (similar as 7 to smoke, but with 4 people).
For the Top 4 round, dancers will go on for 20 min (each dancer is given 1 minute max per turn). The music format here will range from the genres in the previous rounds, but also adding house, newer hip-hop, swing, latin, jazz-funk, etc. The catch is that the music genre will switch after each win. So each round will have a different genre of music.

Main goal for this format is for everyone to have a little fun adapting to different genres, be able to flip their locking style, but still keep the feeling within the realm of locking, all while being IN the music. The dancer with the most wins at the end of the 20 minutes is declared winner. *In the rare event of a tie, those Top 4 dancers will vote for their favorite dancer from the Top 4 (not allowed to vote for themselves though)

Stay tuned for more details!!
